The Homing Missile is a standard Missile weapon in nearly all missions. The Homing Missile, when launched, seeks out the nearest target. Two missiles are fired at once, with a high rate of fire and accuracy.

R-Type

The Homing Missile was introduced in the first title.

R-Type II / Super R-Type

The Homing Missile is obtained by picking up the red Missile power-up. The Homing Missile and the Scatter Bomb (blue power-up) are mutually exclusive.

R-Type Leo

Instead of two missiles speeding forward, the Homing Missiles in R-Type Leo drop away above and below the R-9Leo Leo, quickly accelerating forward to impact only when there is target directly in front.

R-Type III: The Third Lightning

The Homing Missile in this mission is called the Electron Missile and takes the form of optical projectiles, but is functionally the same.

R-Type Delta

The Homing Missile is exclusively used by the R-9aII Delta.

The Enhanced Homing Missile is exclusively used by the POW Armor. This missile can pierce lightly-armor targets and packs a strong punch.

R-Type Final / R-Type Final 2

The Final series puts out several variants of this weapon.

Homing Missile

Description:

A missile that homes in on targets. Two can be fired at once. The high rate of fire and accuracy make it a popular choice among pilots.

Abbreviated as H (Final) / H1 (Final 2) in the armament. The classic standard variant.

Available to a large number of ships. It's the default missile of the R-9A series, the R-9AF, the R-9AD series, the R-9C, the R-9K, the R-90 series, the R-9AX series, the R-9Leo series, the R-9W series, the R-9E series, the TX-T, the OF series, the TP-1, and the B-5B.

Used by:

Enhanced Homing Missile

Description:

Able to pierce lightly-armored targets, and has homing capabilities. A strong missile weapon.

Abbreviated as D (Final) / H2 (Final 2) in the armament. This missile can pierce lightly-armor targets and packs a strong punch. Its travel speed is slower than the standard Homing Missile.

The Enhanced Homing Missile is mainly available to the POW Armor series, and is the default Missile of the TP-2, the TP-2H, the B-5C, and the R-9uso800.

Used by:

4 Way Homing Missile

Description:

Fires homing missiles in 4 directions at once. A strong missile weapon with good defensive value.

Abbreviated as A (Final) / 4W (Final 2) in the armament. Launches up to 4 missiles at once. Collecting 1 Missile Power-Up grants 2, the next one increases to 4. The Missiles are launched from the front when the Force is detached, and are launched from the rear when the Force is attached. Its travel speed is slower than the standard Homing Missile.

It's the default Missile of the TL series up to the TL-2A2.

Used by:

6 Way Homing Missile

Description:

Launches homing missiles in 6 directions at once. Slightly less accurate than the 4 Way Homing Missile.

Abbreviated as B (Final) / 6W (Final 2) in the armament. Launches up to 6 missiles at once. Collecting 1 Missile Power-Up grants 4, the next one increases to 6. The Missiles are launched from the front when the Force is detached, and are launched from the rear when the Force is attached. Its travel speed is slower than the standard Homing Missile.

It's the default Missile of the TL-2B series.

Used by:

Eyeball Homing Missile

Description:

Developed to be compatible with Bydo-derived fighters. Functions are nearly identical to the Homing Missile.

Abbreviated as E (Final) / EM (Final 2) in the armament. As per the standard missile, but shaped like eyeballs.

Typically only used by the B series crafts, but the B-5B Golden Selection, the B-5C Platinum Heart and the B-5D Diamond Wedding are the only Bydo series fighters that can't use the Eyeball Homing Missile. In addition, it's not the default Missile of the BX-2, the B-3B series and the B-3C series.

Used by:

Eyeball Missiles are also encountered as enemies in R-Type Final 2. They are #35 at the Bydo Lab.

R-Type Command / R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate

In R-Type Command, the Homing Missile is localized as the Tracer Missile and can intercept enemy missile attacks within its range; the Eyeball Homing Missile is localized as the Oculoids and can counter enemy attacks within its range.
