R-Type Wiki

The Double Claw Beam Force is a Force Introduced in R-Type Final 2, initially equipped to the TL-2B2 Hyllos. It is similar to both the Beam Saber Force, and Beam Ax Force, only possessing two blades instead of one (causing its coverage to increase), firing double lasers when equipped with a Red, or Blue Laser Crystal, leaving a massive laser emitter trail on being jettisoned, and having a different slashing pattern than the previous two forces when equipped with a Red Laser Crystal.

Its swing speed and tertiary slash beam extension lengths are identical to that of the Beam Ax force.

Crystals and Effects[]

Beam Double Claw Force

Red Laser Crystal - Crimson Beam Double Claw: The Force slashes in a pattern identical to that of the Beam Saber Force's, Beam Ax Force's, and its own Yellow Crystal, being a trio of cuts in a 180 degree arc on the side its attached to. Unlike the similar forces, however, the Double Claw Beam Force emits two, angled, Reverse C shaped beams above and below the middle of the screen, them travelling until hitting an enemy, the terrain, or going off screen, whereupon they dissipate. The Swing Speed of this laser is identical to that of the Beam Ax Force's Ochre Beam Ax/Yellow Crystal.

Blue Laser Crystal - Lapis Beam Double Claw: The force emits its now-blue claws at an upward angle, then rotates in a conical sweep, spinning at the same rate as the Beam Saber Force, and Beam Ax Force's Blue Crystal beams. As with those other two, it also fires lasers from the claw tips at the top, and bottom apex of its rotation, only from each tip, causing two beams to fire out parallel of each other. Both of these beams can hit the same enemy for increased damage.

Yellow Laser Crystal - Ochre Beam Double Claw: The Force emits a pair of yellow claws, slashing them in a trio of arcs that cover the full 180 degrees of the side the force is attached to, said beam growing on the 3rd slash, and shrinking back to default before the cycle repeats. As with the other two, similar forces, the claw tips are converted to an energy ball that grants farther reach.

Detached: Much like the other Beam Forces, detaching the force with a laser crystal equipped will cause it to leave a beam trail of the same colour around it as it rotates. Upon picking up two laser crystals, the emitted beam will be the same size as a three crystal Beam Ax Force aura. On picking up a third Laser Crystal, this damaging aura increases to roughly 1.5X that of the Beam Ax Force, and 2.0X of the Beam Saber Force, making it incredibly easy to catch enemies in its damaging field.

As with those other two, the Damaging Aura persists until the launch momentum is the force is lost on contact with a large enemy, terrain, or the edge of the screen. Once momentum has been deadened it will engage in the standard Beam Force behaviour of remaining 3/4s of the screen away from the player, attempting to align itself with them horizontally, and rotating idly, while dealing contact damage to anything it touches.

Trivia[]

  • In R-Type Final the TL-2B2 Hyllos was equipped with the Beam Saber Force, making this force the second new-to-non-$500-tier-backers force in the game, and second with new lasers.
  • As such, and was the case for the Beam Ax Force, creation and balancing of this particular force may be partly responsible for the delayed addition of the remaining 4 TL Series crafts to the game.
