The Taran species are said to be heavily mutated from Earth's tarantula spiders by the Bydo. As such, they've been modified to appear in many different kinds of environments. The Asteroid Taran is one of the more extreme examples, as it can survive in the vacuum of space and is often found in Bydo installations. It's more durable than it looks and can quickly clog an environment with a steady stream of Tarans.
